Qatar’s Athlete Development Pathway (ADP) seeks to produce Qatari sporting champions. Developed in partnership with Aspire Academy, ADP is a robust framework for identifying, developing, and nurturing talented athletes at every career stage. It includes 39 sport-specific models, an innovative Athlete Management System, and an ADP encyclopaedia for support.
Archery
Qatar Shooting & Archery Association
The Qatar Shooting & Archery Association was established in 1978 as the official body overseeing the development, regulation, and promotion of shooting and archery sports in the country. Operating under the Qatar Olympic Committee, the association works in alignment with the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) and World Archery, ensuring that its programs and competitions meet international standards.
The association manages a variety of shooting disciplines, including trap, skeet, 10m air rifle, 10m air pistol, and several archery categories. It runs year-round training programs through specialized national facilities like the Lusail Shooting Range, focusing on both grassroots development and elite athlete preparation.
Qatar has produced several standout athletes in recent years, including Mohammed Al-Rumaihi and Masoud Hamad, who have represented the country in multiple international competitions, including the Asian Games and Olympic qualifiers. Rising talents such as Khalid Al-Mudhaf and Rashid Saleh are also gaining attention on the Arab and Asian circuits.
On the hosting front, the association has successfully organized numerous regional and international tournaments, including the Asian Shooting Championships, Arab Archery and Shooting Cups, and ISSF World Cup stages, further cementing Qatar’s reputation as a leading destination for precision sports in the region.
At the 9th World Conference on Sport and the Environment, the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) was honored with a special award from the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in recognition of its dedication to environmental sustainability and the use of sustainable technology.
The IOC Sport and Environment Award, presented every two years, celebrates outstanding efforts within the Olympic Movement to promote environmental responsibility. Recipients are nominated by National Olympic Committees, International Federations, or Continental Associations, making this recognition a significant testament to QOC’s leadership in sustainable sports development.
A core component of Qatar’s commitment to developing sports at a grassroots level, SOP aims to increase sports participation among young people and educate them through Olympic values, contributing to a healthy and cohesive society. SOP serves as the first stepping-stone to producing successful world-class athletes, with the Qatar Olympic Committee partnering with national federations to identify talented athletes. SOP also annually holds a Paralympic Day to celebrate achievements and encourage greater participation.
Qatar Winter Sports Committee
The Qatar Winter Sports Committee was established in 2010 as the official body responsible for developing and promoting ice and snow sports in the State of Qatar, under the umbrella of the Qatar Olympic Committee. Despite Qatar’s desert climate, the committee has made significant strides in introducing winter sports to the country, fostering participation, and building a national infrastructure that aligns with international standards.

H.H. Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani, the Emir and former President of the Qatar Olympic Committee, was awarded the highest international honor by the Special Olympics Movement in recognition of his exceptional contributions to the advancement of the global Special Olympics Movement.
This prestigious award stands as one of the most esteemed distinctions granted by the Special Olympics to individuals who have made significant, positive impacts on the movement at the international level.
